“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”. (Mt.5,9)
To the World Community
We are, unfortunately, witnessing how some parts of the world are aflame with war, corruption, injustice and violence. In these days, our eyes are fixed on the Middle East. We feel pain, helplessness, incomprehension, insecurity.
Our identity as a lay, Ignatian and apostolic community, reaffirmed at the last General Assembly, makes us co-responsible not only in the mission of a member of the community but also in suffering (1 Cor 12:26). All of us, as a World Community, suffer with what members of our community are experiencing around the world.
The Holy Father has called for a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace on 27 October. “Silence the weapons, listen to the cry for peace of the poor, of the people, of the children. War does not solve any problem, it only sows’ death and destruction. It increases hatred, multiplies revenge. War erases the future.”
From the World Executive Council, we want to express our closeness and prayer with all the affected communities and invite all of you to join with the Church on the 27th day of October, and to dedicate the next meeting of each of your CLC groups to pray for all the victims of
conflicts, for those who work for Peace and for the conversion of those who spread violence in the world. We need a renewed commitment to the search for the common good. Peace is possible!
Benedict XVI’s message for the celebration of the 46th World Day of Peace in 2013 can be material to help you prepare for prayer: “Blessed are the Peacemakers”.
Let us entrust all decision-makers to Mary so that they may find ways of peace and hope.
